Jeff Hardy will face off against The Miz next week

What’s the story?

After winning the No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal, Jeff Hardy will take on The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship next week on Monday Night Raw.

In case you didn’t know...

Since his time in the WWE Championship scene ended in 2012, The Miz has held the Intercontinental Championship multiple times since he first won the title at Raw 1000. His career took off following a scathing promo on Talking Smack and The A-Lister is regarded by many as one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions of the modern era.

He has been a champion for 85 days, but he has held the belt for 438 days collectively, since winning his first title.

The heart of the matter

The Miz kicked off Monday Night Raw, but was interrupted by Angle. The Miz talked about the disrespect he was shown for not being allowed to defend his championship at SummerSlam, which prompted Angle to announce a No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal for the Intercontinental Championship to determine The Miz's challenger next week on Raw.

The match ended when Jason Jordan eliminated both members of The Miztourage and turned his attention towards Jeff Hardy, only for the Extreme Enigma to eliminate him.

What’s next?

No rumors have been reported regarding The Miz or Hardy, so there’s no telling what will happen to in this championship match next week.

The last time the WWE gave away an Intercontinental Championship match was when The Miz challenged Dean Ambrose for the belt, which led to a rematch at Extreme Rules. Barring any interference, this match could be used to set up the rematch between the two at No Mercy.

Author’s Take

It’s been a while since fans have seen Hardy in singles competition and even longer since they’ve seen him compete for the Intercontinental Championship.

Hopefully, both wrestlers give us a good show next week.
