WWE News: The reason Asuka isn’t defending The NXT Women’s Title against a current NXT star revealed

WWE had announced earlier that Asuka would defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Mickie James

The WWE Universe went wild after it was announced that NXT Women’s Champion Asuka would defend her title against five-time WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie James.

The initial plans were for Asuka to go in as the Women’s Champion and defend her title against Trish Stratus. Trish is perhaps the greatest female wrestler in the history of WWE.

WWE wanted to use Trish as the natural babyface in Toronto and turn up the heel heat on Asuka. But these plans couldn’t materialise as Trish is expecting her second child.

So WWE went with plan B and booked Mickie James for the match.

The main idea behind this booking was to portray Asuka as the monster heel, before she locks horns with the upcoming face Amber Moon, according to Daily Wrestling News and the Wrestling observer News Letter.

Asuka has been quite the dominant Women’s champion in NXT. She is still undefeated and took down the most over female babyface, Bayley – twice. It is uncertain if Mickie James is looking to redeem her WWE career again or if it is a one-time appearance.

Irrespective of this, it is almost certain that she will put over Asuka in the best possible way. That in fact, will not harm Mickie in any way, as she has already proven herself as a brilliant worker inside the ring.

NXT has become the breeding ground for talent in the WWE. Names like Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Finn Balor personify this fact. The women’s roster has also benefited a lot from NXT.

What started with some great matches between the likes of Paige, Summer Rae and Emma, gradually snowballed into a Women’s Evolution and WWE shed the term Diva to address their female talent.

Now the female roster boasts of a certain group of women called the Four Horsewomen, comprising of the highly talented Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley, who are all from NXT.

It won’t be too long before Asuka comes into the main roster. But before that, she is staring at one of the best female workers in the WWE in Mickie James. The two are set to lock horns at NXT TakeOver: Toronto at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on November 19, 2016.
