The man behind it all

What’s the story?

There have been many rumours circulating about whether WWE is for sale or not following the announcement of Vince McMahon's new venture Alpha Entertainment.

Well, Triple H has finally commented on the situation and said that he believes it is "obvious" that Vince McMahon is willing to listen to offers.

In case you didn’t know…

It has previously been reported that, with UFC being sold for $4 billion, Vince McMahon had a change of heart and has been open to the possibility of selling up.

Dave Meltzer, while speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio last month, said he believed Vince McMahon's attitude towards selling the company had changed after the mega-money deal for UFC went ahead.

Meltzer made the statement after it had been announced that Vince McMahon had registered and invested in a non-wrestling entity called Alpha Entertainment - thought to be a gateway to the return of XFL.

The heart of the matter

While on a conference call to speak about NXT TakeOver Philadelphia, Triple H was asked about whether WWE was "open for business" in terms of a potential sale.

Triple H said that he believes it's obvious that Vince McMahon said they are open to offers.

He added that they are happy where they are but, if someone has an idea, they are definitely open to discuss any potential offers, even if it doesn't seem likely.

What’s next?

Well, these rumours never seem to go away. We haven't really found out what Alpha Entertainment is, so this may hold the key to the possibility of a sale.

It's interesting to hear Triple H speak about a potential sale, with many believing he would be right in line along with Stephanie and Shane McMahon to take over the company if Vince were to decide to step down.

The idea of an outsider buying the company has always been a fringe discussion. But the big question is, who would be able to take of such a monumental company? Who could afford it?

Author’s take

The fact that Vince may be open to offers is very interesting. But Mr. McMahon would want earth-shattering money for WWE. He would no doubt want any deal to eclipse the $4 billion UFC sold for.

Thinking of potential buyers, there isn't really an obvious choice. Disney, FOX and even Facebook have all been rumoured to be interested - especially with speculation that WWE may be coming to the end of their TV deal with USA Network. But it doesn't seem like a sale of the full company would be as imminent as this. But you never know, a TV deal may serve as a taster for a company to actually size up the company for a bid. In fact, the WWE MMC may be doing just that too for Facebook.

It's definitely an interesting story, particularly with RAW hitting a viewership of 4.5million this week on the 25th Anniversary show, the company's stock has likely never been higher.
