What’s the story?

In an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon opened up on a myriad of topics.

While Stephanie hyped her match with Ronda Rousey and spoke about her father Vince McMahon being a visionary, Triple H expounded upon the timing of Vince bringing back the XFL.

In case you didn’t know…

WWE majority owner, CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon recently revealed that his new company Alpha Entertainment will indeed be funding the return of the XFL—a pro-football league that ran for a single season in 2001, before its closure.

McMahon has since revealed that the XFL will return in 2020. He added that the pro-football league will hire experts to administer its proceedings, with him simply assuming the role of owner and operator unlike the 2001 version of XFL, where McMahon largely managed the entire league himself.

The heart of the matter

Upon being probed as to how Vince McMahon manages to keep the WWE relevant over the years, Stephanie McMahon asserted that her father is a visionary who has his fingers on the marketplace, is a great storyteller and a genius. Stephanie also addressed her upcoming WrestleMania 34 match, stating that Ronda Rousey is nervous and, from a character perspective, she will put Rousey in her place.

Additionally, in response to whether he feels comfortable having his beautiful wife wrestle, Triple H emphasized that he’s more than comfortable with a strong, powerful woman who can handle herself.

Furthermore, Triple H explained that Vince McMahon’s theory has always been to treat every day as one’s first day on the job, and to keep adapting. Triple H also responded to talks about McMahon bringing back the XFL at a time when the NFL is facing ongoing political and league troubles.

“I think if anything he has proven over time that you learn from failure, much more than you learn from success…He's gone at this once and it didn't work out. I think he learned a ton from that and he's been chomping at the bit from the time to be right to do it again—I feel like he believes the time is right, now—I think he's learned more from that success and certainly I wouldn't bet against him."
“I think the time is right in the world, I think the time is right on a global basis—social media and the ability to get it out on a digital level. Instead of playing catch up to that, you're starting it fresh with that, (and) I think the time is right in a lot of ways."

What’s next?

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are set to compete against the duo of Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey in a Mixed Tag Team Match, which will be Rousey’s debut WWE match.

The aforementioned matchup takes place at WrestleMania 34, which is set to emanate from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 8th.

Author’s take

Triple H hit the bulls-eye by alluding that Vince McMahon bringing back the XFL doesn’t necessarily correlate with the NFL’s ongoing troubles.

McMahon is a genius, and a man who’s truly passionate about whichever sport he promotes. Here’s hoping the XFL ascends to great heights of success come 2020.
