What’s the story?

WWE COO Triple H recently spoke with CBS Sports, in order to share his thoughts on gaining creative control of WWE’s 205 Live Cruiserweight Division and attempting to take the division to a whole new level by making it more exciting.

In case you didn’t know...

Following the aftermath of the first ever WWE Cruiserweight Classic tournament in 2016, the WWE decided to make the Cruiserweight division into a brand of their own which eventually gave started the company’s 205 Live show.

As noted, 205 Live currently features some of WWE’s most high flying superstars such as the likes of Buddy Murphy, Mustafa Ali, Cedric Alexander, Roderick Strong and many more. In the past, we have also witnessed superstars such as Neville, Austin Aries, and even Enzo Amore competing under the 205 Live banner.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with CBS Sports, Triple H noted that the current rebuilding process of 205 Live is a certain work in progress after the WWE initially decided to ignite the idea of the show, following success of the first ever Cruiserweight Classic.

“I think we did the 'Cruiserweight Classic' and it was an excitement and an opportunity. We jumped on making it into its own show, but I don't know if that was totally just kind of thought out in the right way or done in the right way. I think we made an attempt at it that.”

In addition, Triple H noted that the great thing about the WWE is that the company’s management team is more than capable of changing the nature of things within a dime and put things in a certain direction that will eventually make sure that the fans get what they initially ask for, which is the actual intent.

"The great thing about [WWE] is we can change them on a dime. We can put it in a different direction, and if people don't like something, just keep watching [because] we are probably going to get you there. We are probably going to get you to a place that works for everyone. That is the intent."

Furthermore, “The Game” also stated that WWE 205 Live provides an opportunity for all of the athletes in the company, who did not have a clear path ahead of them.

“There was no big path, and it was doing what they were doing but this opened up doors for them. Hopefully it will continue to grow, much like NXT has, much like the [United Kingdom efforts] will and all of that. I think there is tremendous opportunity and in some way we are just kind of nicking the surface of where we will be."

What’s next?

WWE will crown a new Cruiserweight Champion on the 8th of April at WrestleMania 34 when Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander square off against each other in order to determine the winner of the on-going WWE Cruiserweight Championship tournament.

Author’s take

WWE’s Cruiserweight Division has certainly excelled a lot over the course of the past few weeks, ever since Triple H took over the division and with the addition of the likes of Roderick Strong and Buddy Murphy, things certainly look bright for 205 Live in the upcoming future.
