What's the story?
The National interviewed "The Game" Triple H head of their WWE Live event in Abu Dhabi featuring the Monday Night Raw brand on Thursday. One of the main topics they covered was current WWE Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns.
In case you didn't know...
Triple H and Roman Reigns closed the show in Dallas for WrestleMania 32 when they battled for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship (pre-brand split). After an epic 27-minute match, Roman Reigns came out on top winning his third world title within the company.
The heart of the matter
They covered two main points in the interview about Roman Reigns. The fact that he is perceived as the chosen one by the WWE Universe and the fact that he is extremely skilled in the ring.
Triple H talked about how the WWE Universe doesn't accept the position that Reigns is in with the WWE. He states that the people who argue against the fact of him being the chosen one are not qualified to make those evaluations, that is the job of Triple H himself.
Triple H would go on to talk about the reactions that Reigns gets with the WWE Universe and comparing this situation to one similar with John Cena in the following quote:
"It is funny that Roman goes to the ring every night and there is a decision being made whether they want to boo him or cheer him depending on where you are and depends what is done. But usually by the end of the night, because he works so hard and he is so good at what he does that he wins them over. That has been the trend recently, as you saw with John Cena, as you see with others. He is a skilled guy in the ring, no matter how you break it down. I would consider him to be one of the very best in the WWE today."
What's next?
All indications point to Roman Reigns defending the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Samoa Joe in the near future. At the time of this writing, it is not known if that will happen on a future Raw, or if it will be held off until the Royal Rumble on January 28th.
Author's take
There was a point in time when Roman would be pushed and I met it with apathy; however, as his career continued after the break-up of The Shield in 2014, I learned more and more about Roman inside and out of the ring and learned to respect him.
I actually think it comes with getting older. I used to love Cena during the Thuganomic days, then got tired of him, now I love it when he's wrestling or in an angle.
Going way off course to the world of golf, I thought of Tiger Woods in the same way.
Over the course of time when you learn more, you grow to appreciate their skill, and when it comes to Roman Reigns, he's one of the best in the business inside and out of the ring, and a great leader in the locker room.
