WWE News: Triple H opens up about the Undertaker's expected schedule following GRR

What's the story?

Triple H recently appeared on Sky Sports' Lock Up podcast and spoke about several issues, with one big one being whether The Undertaker will continue to wrestle following his appearances at this year's WrestleMania and then the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia.

In case you didn't know...

Before WrestleMania 34, the last time we saw Undertaker compete was in a match against Roman Reigns that was universally criticised as being "lacklustre" with many saying Undertaker should call it a day.

Well, up until Raw 25, and even for the few months following, we all thought he had. Leaving his hat, coat and gloves in the ring, many thought we'd seen the last of the Deadman.

However, his vague statement at Raw 25 didn't confirm nor deny the rumour, and all was left up in the air in the lead up to WrestleMania where John Cena called out the Phenom every week on Raw and sat in the crowd at WrestleMania after Undertaker didn't show up.

Undertaker looked great in his return - but it only lasted three minutes

While Taker did answer Cena's challenge and defeat the 16-time World Champion at WrestleMania, it was essentially a three-minute squash match whereby a lot of speculation flew around that either Undertaker was getting one last win at Mania, or we were building very slowly to next year, and wouldn't see Undertaker again for a while.

Alas, less than a month later, it was surprising to see the Deadman look great again in a Casket Match against Rusev at the Greatest Royal Rumble - leaving the WWE Universe wondering whether we'll see another Undertaker match, or even maybe the return of the Deadman.

The heart of the matter

On this week's Lock Up podcast, Triple H was asked about whether he believes Undertaker will be back in a WWE ring following his two decent showings in short succession - seemingly making up for last year's lacklustre match where Undertaker competed despite desperately requiring surgery.

I think there's one person who has the rights to call the shots and that's the Undertaker. I think it will all depend on him and I think it should all depend on him. At this point, it should be what he wants to and feels comfortable doing.

The Game went on to say that he personally thinks we haven't seen the last of the Deadman.

I know that he, as a performer, always wants to be able to give his best and, if he can't then he doesn't want to do it. When he's in a position where he is right now, I think he feels great and wants to be able to be out there and show the Undertaker to the world, but it really comes down to himself, as it should.

What's next?

Well, there's nothing so far confirmed in terms of if or when Undertaker will come back to WWE, but you'd have to think his final match wouldn't have been the Casket Match against Rusev at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

Undertaker is a grand attraction and you can probably bet he'll be at WrestleMania 35 - but before then, we'll have to wait and see!

Author's take

Personally, I was caught in two minds when it was revealed Undertaker would be competing at WrestleMania. I love The Undertaker. He's a true legend in every sense of the word, but last year was painful to watch. This year, though, while short, was great - and the match against Rusev was entertaining, too.

Of course, I'd like to see Undertaker in a WWE ring again, but I just hope he continues to look as impressive as he has recently and retires decisively and while he's on top. Hopefully, we can start building towards that and WWE can choose someone to finally retire the Deadman in the next few years.
