WWE News: Triple H teases a match against The Rock at WrestleMania
What's the story?
In an interview in the Mumbai Facebook office on Facebook Live, Triple H was asked about his relationship with The Rock and when a possible future match was brought up, The Game made quite the tease, not denying the possibility of it in the future.
In case you didn't know...
Triple H and The Rock have a storied rivalry from back in the Attitude Era. They last met on-screen at WrestleMania 31 when The Rock teamed with Ronda Rousey to take out the two heads of The Authority, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
Prior to that, their last face-to-face interaction on-screen was a backstage skit on the 15th Anniversary of SmackDown back in 2014, where they planted the seeds for a match at WrestleMania
The funny part is that this match was supposed to be the main event of WrestleMania 32, which is why they specifically mention that it would be in a stadium with at least a 100,000 people. This was reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Of course, things didn't pan out this way, but Triple H did end up main eventing WrestleMania 32, but against Roman Reigns, who had his first coronation. The main event was terribly received by fans and critics alike.
The heart of the matter
Triple H was asked about his relationship with The Rock, where he revealed that despite being on friendly terms with The Great One, the two still share a competitive relationship. The interviewer mentioned the possibility of a match between the two and Triple H mentioned the segment (video above) and facing The Rock at WrestleMania:
About two years ago, he and I(The Rock) did a backstage promo with each other where we talked about WrestleMania, and the competitive nature of it and it lit up the internet about the possibility of it. It's something we've discussed. It's just making schedules work, he's pretty busy I am too. But hey, right place, right time? I'll dance one more time with The Great One, Rock.
Without a doubt, a match between Triple H and The Rock at The Grandest Stage Of Them All would be a huge draw. However, the issue with The Rock is due to insurance. The last time he wrestled was in 2013 at WrestleMania 29 against John Cena in the main event.
During the match, he suffered an injury and his filming schedule for Hercules was delayed, and from then there seems to be no sign of The Rock wrestling. It is true that he beat Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 in six seconds, but that doesn't really count does it? (Let the record books show that Erick Rowan co-main evented the biggest WrestleMania of all time against The Rock!)
The Rock will be busy with his upcoming film schedule and a WWE return doesn't seem on the cards anytime soon. As for Triple H, he can definitely be expected around WrestleMania 34 season.
Obviously, The Rock vs Triple H would be a huge match, but two part-timers in their 40s should not be main eventing a WrestleMania. Either way, it doesn't seem like that's going to happen anytime soon, with Roman Reigns main eventing next WrestleMania and maybe even the next few WrestleManias.
