WWE News: Triple H unveils NXT North American Championship belt

What's the story?

After it was revealed that a six-man Ladder Match taking place at WWE NXT TakeOver: New Orleans would see a new champion crowned, the inaugural NXT North American Champion, there's been a great deal of speculation around what the title would look like.

Well, the wait is over as the title belt design has finally been revealed!

In case you didn't know...

With a stacked roster, there had been a lot of talk about NXT introducing a secondary singles title for a while.

At WrestleMania weekend, we will see the culmination of years of speculation when the North American Championship is suspended above the ring waiting to be claimed.

The six men vying to make history and be the first ever NXT North American Champion are EC3, Killian Dain, Ricochet, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan and Velveteen Dream.

The heart of the matter

Triple H took to Twitter tonight to post a video unveiling the title belt, which you can see below.

What's next?

NXT TakeOver: New Orleans takes place this Saturday, the day before WrestleMania, at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The inaugural NXT North American Champion will be crowned at the event.

Author's take

Well, I quite like the design. It isn't what I expected, but it definitely differentiates from the other NXT Championship belts.

The only thing I can say bad about it is it looks a bit like the Raw Tag Team Championships due to the colour and shape of the main plate - but I do love the classic design and think having a secondary champion is an incredible idea!

With such a stacked roster, it'll be great to see another title on the show - and it could do wonders for the careers of some of the NXT wrestlers.

I still think stars like Baron Corbin, Tyler Breeze and Tye Dillinger missed out in NXT by never holding a title - while this won't fix that, it will prevent similar situations from happening in the future, and make the product more exciting to watch!
