R-Truth pulls a huge upset on SmackDown Live!

What's the story?

There was chaos on SmackDown Live tonight as the United States Championship changed hands one and almost twice with Shinsuke Nakamura starting the show as champion and R-Truth ending the show as champion.

In case you didn't know...

Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev clashed in the Royal Rumble pre-show for the United States Title and Nakamura was able to regain the title he lost to the 'Bulgarian Brute' thanks to Rusev accidentally knocking Lana off of the ropes.

R-Truth's Royal Rumble was as good as Rusev's as he was attacked by Nia Jax whilst trying to enter at #30 and was replaced by the female Superstar in the Men's Royal Rumble.

The heart of the matter

R-Truth, flanked by Carmella, announced he'd been given a United States Title shot by the McMahons as a result of losing his thirtieth spot in the Royal Rumble that he'd earned by winning the Mixed Match Challenge.

And incredibly he surprised Shinsuke Nakamura with a roll-up victory.

R-Truth's celebration was cut short as Rusev and Lana came out. Things got heated and Rusev challenged R-Truth to defend his newly won title and R-Truth ended up accepting, leading to our second United States Title match of the night.

Unfortunately for Rusev, he lost in exactly the same way as Shinsuke Nakamura meaning that when the dust had settled R-Truth was still United States Champion. Unfortunately for R-Truth, he ate a post-match beatdown from the two former United States Champions for his troubles.

What's next?

R-Truth winning his first title in the WWE for seven years is an incredible moment and a huge surprise for the post-Royal Rumble SmackDown Live. Plus it seems to have created a new dominant tag-team/alliance with Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev.

With those two working together I can't imagine that Truth will be United States Champion for long!
