Vader is set to have Heart Surgery

What's the story?

In November of 2016, Vader announced that he had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and years OF wrestling and playing football had taken a toll on him. The announcement was somber in tone, as his doctors had given him only two years to live.

Recently, Vader took to Twitter to announce an update on his condition, saying that he is scheduled for heart surgery early on Tuesday morning.

In case you didn't know...

Wrestling Fans from the Attitude Era may remember Big Van Vader. Wrestling in the late 1980's and early 1990's, Vader was one of the most famous names in wrestling at the time. He wrestled in WCW and WWE, then known as WWF, and had a celebrated career, and will be remembered for his power and speed in the ring despite his size.

A former 3-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and one-time United States Heavyweight Champion, Vader is well known for being a man who surpassed what was expected from a man of his size.

Vader suffered from a number of diseases due to the sort of life that he had led, wrestling and travelling all around the world. He also suffered from personal demons as well, with problems relating to alcohol abuse. He has had his share of injuries in the ring, prior to the diagnosis of the congestive heart failure. He had to have double knee surgery which led to complications after it was infected, and he was in a coma for 33 days.

The heart of the matter

Vader announced a positive update about his condition in December, saying that he was improving and the doctor had said that he was getting stronger.

More recently, Vader tweeted late Monday Night, saying that he was scheduled for Heart Surgery and would be going to the hospital in the 'Am', suggesting that he is set to be operated on in the morning of Tuesday. He followed up on the tweet asking his fans to wish him luck and wish that his doctor had a good night's rest.

Author's take

A wrestler's life is never easy, and it can often lead to injuries and diseases due to the amount of violence and abuse the bodies are put through. Hopefully, this surgery is what is needed to give Vader a better chance to recover.

We at Sportskeeda hope Vader makes a full recovery and goes on to live a healthier life.
