What's the story?

WWE Superstars Tyler Breeze and Fandango were recently guests on Edge and Christian's podcast E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness. Among other things, Breeze revealed that Vince McMahon wasn't really a fan of the popular segment - The Fashion Files, and had to be convinced not to cancel it.

In case you didn’t know…

Tyler Breeze and Fandango formed an alliance of sorts back in May 2016 and have since been competing in the Tag Team division. Later that year, they began their current gimmick of being The Fashion Police.

In mid 2017, a new segment called The Fashion Files started airing on SmackDown Live, in which Breezango would take up a mystery each week and try to solve the case. Each week, the duo appeared in hilarious segments designed after famous pop-culture movies and TV shows such as Pulp Fiction and Stranger Things. The segment was well-received by the fans and got the team over with the WWE Universe.

The heart of the matter

Among other things, Tyler Breeze discussed the fan-favourite segment and revealed how himself and Fandango worked on their gimmick together and pitched it to management. He went on to reveal that the Chairman of the Board, Vince McMahon wasn't exactly impressed with their idea.

Apparently, Vince 'did not get it' but since it was well-received by fans on social media, he let the segments continue.

"A lot of the reason why it was a success and that it became a thing was because of social media. I guess we did one episode and it was kind of supposed to end after that, but I guess it was the number one trending thing on SmackDown or something like that. And even Vince, he was like, 'I don't get it, but the people like it, so keep doing it.' And it was all-of-a-sudden eight months later because of social media."

Breeze also revealed how he had come close to being cut from the company multiple times, but was once saved when Triple H saw him perform well in a match.

What's next?

In the Superstar Shakeup 2018, Breeze and Fandango were drafted over to Raw from SmackDown Live. They even pulled off an upset victory over The Bar on the April 16th edition of Raw. Cesaro and Sheamus were later switched to the blue brand.

Author's take

Some of the episodes of The Fashion Files were truly comedic gold and kudos to Breeze and Fandango for working hard on their gimmick. However, it's a pity that it did not translate into anything in the form of a big push for the duo. Hopefully, they'll find their footing on Raw.
