Asuka and Alexa squared off after Raw went off the air

What's the story?

This week's WWE Raw broadcast saw the Women's Champion, Alexa Bliss trying to rekindle her alliance with former friend turned rival, Mickie James. The two teamed up in a Tag Team Match, against Sonia Deville and Mandy Rose, in a losing effort.

After Monday Night Raw went off the air, however, the Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss, had her hands full as she had to defend her title against Asuka in a Singles Match.

In case you didn't know...

Asuka won the first ever Women's Royal Rumble Match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in the Wells Fargo Center. Since then, she has not announced whether she wants to face Charlotte Flair or Alexa Bliss at Wrestlemania.

Before Bliss can consider such an eventuality, however, she has to be able to reach WrestleMania with her title as the Champion. On the previous week's episode, Kurt Angle announced that she would have to defend her Championship inside the Elimination Chamber, in the first ever Women's Elimination Chamber Match.

During this week's Raw, Bayley and Sasha faced each other in a singles bout, which Bayley was able to win.

The heart of the matter

After the show went off the air, Alexa Bliss defended her title against Asuka in the dark main event match. They were interrupted by Nia Jax as she ran out to interfere and attacked Asuka.

As a result, the match ended in disqualification, with Asuka winning, but Alexa retaining her title. Bayley and Sasha came out for the save to get a measure of revenge back from earlier in the night, and the three babyfaces stood tall.

What's next?

Much to her chagrin, Alexa is slated to face Bayley, Sasha Banks, Mandy Rose, Sonia Deville and Mickie James at the upcoming Elimination Chamber pay-per-view inside the structure of the same name.

At the same time, Asuka is slated to face Nia Jax at the pay-per-view. While Asuka has not announced her decision to face Alexa officially, Kurt Angle announced that if Nia defeats Asuka in their match, then the Women's Champion will have to defend her title in a Triple Threat Match against both women, indicating that Asuka will be challenging for the Raw Women's Title.

Author's take

The match between Asuka and Nia is sure to be interesting, and WWE is building to it well. There is a rumour that the company are set to push Nia to the forefront, so anything may happen where she is concerned.
