WWE News: What happened after RAW went off the air? (8th May, 2017)

Dean Ambrose must defend his title next week

What’s the story?

Dean Ambrose announced that he was acting general manager for the night on the latest episode of Raw. However, The Miz entered the ring and announced that Stephanie McMahon had named him co-general manager.

This led to confrontations between the two and ultimately ended up with the two of them having a match after RAW went off the air.

In case you didn’t know...

This isn’t the first time that RAW has provided the fans with something to cheer for after going off the air.

There have been some memorable dark matches that have been held on RAW, like Shawn Michaels & Randy Orton vs. Triple H & Ric Flair and even a three-man tag team match featuring Daniel Bryan, Kane & Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton, Big Show & Sheamus.

The heart of the matter

On the 8th of May 2017, the main event on Monday Night RAW saw Dean Ambrose face off against ‘The Eater of Worlds’ Bray Wyatt. Ambrose lost the match after The Miz interfered. However, the real main event was after it went off the air. The dark match featured Dean Ambrose vs. The Miz for the Intercontinental title.

The match ended as soon as it began after the ‘Lunatic Fringe’ hit the ‘A-Lister’ with the IC title. Ambrose then disqualified himself from the match (since he was the acting general manager) and The Miz won the match via DQ, but the Champion retained the title for the same reason.

The real fun started when Dean asked the WWE Universe if he should shake hands with The Miz or give him a Dirty Deeds and as expected, the fans wanted the ‘deed to be done’.

Ambrose entered the ring and delivered two Dirty Deeds to The Miz and left him laying in the ring. As Ambrose was leaving the ring, he noticed that the ‘A-Lister’ was still moving and much to the pleasure of the fans, he entered the ring and delivered yet another ‘Dirty Deeds’ and ended the show.

What’s next?

The actual RAW General Manager, Kurt Angle announced that Dean Ambrose will defend his IC title against The Miz in the next episode of Monday Night RAW.

This came as a surprise to many of the fans as they expected the ‘Lunatic Fringe’ to defend his title at the RAW exclusive PPV, Extreme Rules. However, the new announcement and the recent rise in the tensions between the two has increased the hype for the match.

Author’s take

Despite what many critics have been saying about Ambrose’s character going stale, it was fun watching him play the role of GM in the recent episode.

Ambrose has been receiving a lot of attention recently on RAW and it seems to be doing him some good. Although his feud with The Miz was expected to be a boring one, it is turning out to be quite entertaining.
