What's the story?

WWE Superstar Kevin Owens has said that he would like to face Finn Bálor in the main event of WrestleMania.

In case you didn't know

Owens joined the WWE in December 2014, making his in-ring debut at NXT TakeOver: R-Evolution.

Owens captured the NXT Championship from Sami Zayn two months later, before losing the title to Bálor at the Beast In The East event.

In 2016, Owens won the Universal Championship on RAW, after Bálor was forced to vacate the title due to injury.

On this week's episode of Monday Night RAW, Owens 'quit' the company, after losing in an Intercontinental Championship match against Seth Rollins.

The heart of the matter

Speaking to Chuck Caroll of CBS Sports, Owens said how he would love to face the inaugural Universal Champion at the show of shows.

"If it was up to me, whatever I would do would lead to me and Finn Bálor at WrestleMania next year, because he and I came to WWE the exact same time."

Owens said how despite the two being major stars on the Independent scene, they had never met before joining the company in 2014.

"We didn't know each other before we got there. We became pretty close pretty quickly when we did get to the NXT Performance Center. He's been my best friend ever since, so I'd love to share the ring with him on that stage in WrestleMania."

What's next?

Whilst Owens quit the WWE this week, many fans have speculated that he will be back, and is rumored to be the next 'Paul Heyman Guy'.

If (or when) Owens returns, a feud between the two would definitely be worth watching, as their feud for the NXT championship in 2015 was definitely one of the best feuds in the history of the developmental brand.
