From The WWE Rumor Mill: Reason why Stephanie McMahon appeared on SmackDown Live

What's the story?

Kevin Owens and Vince McMahon took part in an outstanding segment on SmackDown Live to set up Owens' Hell In A Cell match against Shane McMahon.

The bloody segment turned a lot of heads and during the angle, Stephanie McMahon emerged to join her father and help him up the ramp along with other WWE officials. Wrestling Observer Radio revealed why WWE wanted Stephanie there.

In case you didn't know...

Kevin Owens does whatever he wants. He might be winning fans over by how awesome he is, but that only means Kevin has to behave even worse to get heat from the fans. Therefore, when he split Vince McMahon open it was a bloody night in Las Vegas.

Vince McMahon and Company had previously forbidden wearing a crimson on WWE television. But since McMahon makes the rules he can just as easily break them.

The heart of the matter

During the segment in question, Vince was left a beaten and bloody mess. While WWE officials assisted Mr. McMahon up the ramp Stephanie McMahon was seen on WWE television for the first time in a long time (unless you count Connor's Cure commercials).

A lot of people thought Stephanie's placement in this angle was odd considering the fact she would be in the ring thirty minutes later presenting Kairi Sane her huge trophy for winning the Mae Young Classic. But Steph has many hats she has to wear.

Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE wanted Stephanie to run down with a white towel and put it to her father's head because they needed the visual of a bloody white towel on TV. She asked for a towel but it didn't go down the way they had planned.

Meltzer also confirmed Vince did cut himself ahead of time only he probably covered it with Vaseline instead of Nu-Skin.

What's next?

After Kevin Owens' assault on his father, he's in for one heck of a match at Hell In A Cell. This match will hopefully be outstanding and help make Kevin Owens an even bigger name in sports entertainment.

Author's take

I don't usually get surprised anymore because I'm pretty jaded. But when Kevin Owens headbutted The Chairman Of The Board, I was plenty shocked. It also showed a lot of trust on Vince McMahon's part for Owens to get the job done.

Stephanie running down to check on her daddy was a really nice touch. But if it was just so she could soak up her father's blood to show it on television that adds a tinge of weirdness to the epic angle.
