What's the story?

Last week's episode of WWE Raw saw Brock Lesnar's opponent for WWE Royal Rumble change, as Braun Strowman was replaced by Finn Balor. The moment the change took place, speculation was rife about Finn Balor facing Lesnar in his Demon Balor form.

Finn Balor recently spoke to ESPN about what the fans could expect, and what sort of form he would take for his match against Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.

In case you didn't know...

Braun Strowman was pursuing Baron Corbin last week and thinking he was inside Mr. McMahon's limousine, Strowman tore the door of the limo of its hinges.

Mr. McMahon was understandably less than pleased by the damage to his car, and he took it out on Strowman, saying that Strowman had just lost his opportunity to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at the WWE Royal Rumble.

Later in the night, Finn Balor won the Fatal Fourway against John Cena, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin to become the No.1 contender for the title instead.

In reality, this was apparently always the plan for the Royal Rumble, and so Balor was always the planned opponent for Lesnar.

Meanwhile, one interesting stat in the career of Finn Balor is that he has never lost as the Demon in his career.

The heart of the matter

While speaking to ESPN, Balor spoke about having leaned too much in the past. He professed that the person who would face Brock Lesnar would be Finn Balor and not the Demon.

"I feel like maybe I leaned on the demon too much there in the past as a crutch, and I can assure you that the man who faces Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble will be Finn Balor, the man. I think a lot of people were surprised when I came out at WrestleMania not in demon paint but I feel like I had a bigger message to spread that day -- one of equality and acceptance."

Balor then went on to say that he had not had much time to focus on the match and it had come about too fast.

"Honestly, this match just kind of came about so fast that I haven't had much time to think about it. I don't have any new gear, I don't have any new looks, I don't have any new ideas right now, but you know, we're still six days away, so I'm sure I'll come up with something."

Balor did, however, hint that he would come up with something before the match.

What's next?

Finn Balor will face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WWE Royal Rumble on the 27th of January. Whether he will be in Demon form or not remains to be seen, but at the moment it certainly does not appear like it.
