What's the story?

One of the matches that the WWE Universe is eagerly looking forward to at WrestleMania 35 is the very personal match between Triple H and Batista.

Triple H has now revealed some interesting details about how the match came about.

In case you didn't know...

At the SmackDown 1000 show, Evolution, the faction comprising of Triple H, Batista, Ric Flair, and Randy Orton, reunited.

At the SmackDown show, the feud between Batista and Triple H was teased as Batista taunted Triple H for having never beaten him in a singles match. But following Triple H's injury at Crown Jewel, many thought that this match would not happen at WrestleMania 35.

The heart of the matter

In an interview with Yahoo ahead of WrestleMania 35, Triple H spoke about how Batista has wanted this match for a few years, but various reasons have led to this match not happening.

"It's something that Dave (Bautista) has brought up for the past few years. For some reason over the past couple of years, he had scheduling conflicts, I was already booked with something else, it just didn't pan out. This year, shortly before SmackDown 1000, we had had a conversation where he said, 'Man, I feel like my window is about closed and if I don't do it this year, I feel like it's not going to happen. Schedule-wise, I have a window around that time, what do you think?'

"So we went and talked to Vince about it and he was all into it. So we were doing the SmackDown 1000 thing and we figured let's throw this little seed out there and see what kind of reaction it gets. We did it and it got a big reaction so we said let's give this a shot."

Triple H also said that he put the match to the back of his mind when he got injured at Crown Jewel but surprised himself at how quickly he returned from his injury.

What's next?

Triple H and Batista face off this Sunday in a No Holds Barred match where a loss to Triple H will see him retire from wrestling.
