There's going to be another WWE UK tournament as they bring back 'King of the Ring'

What's the story?

As part of a teaser advert for new shows on the WWE network during the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, WWE has announced that there will be a 'King of the Ring' UK Tournament taking place this year, and it will be on the WWE Network.

In case you didn't know...

The WWE held a UK tournament a while ago which was won by Tyler Bate, since then everyone has been wondering if the WWE is actually going to do anything with its UK guys, but this seems like a positive step in the right direction, even if it isn't quite the UK show we're all expecting.

The heart of the matter

There have been several rumours and updates surrounding the status of the WWE's UK show, with the first one being that it was going to be called 'King of the Ring', which we now know was correct! Albeit for a tournament and not an episodic show.

More recently than that though have been signs that the WWE were gearing up for the big UK push again after offering their 'big five' UK wrestlers new contracts and reportedly signing two top independent wrestlers from the UK (one of which, Zack Gibson, wrestled for them at Axxess)

Now it seems this was all because they are going to host a tournament called 'King of the Ring' featuring wrestlers from the UK, as suggested by this advert shared by WWE on their Twitter page

What's next?

WWE partnered with Progress for its Axxess event this year and has spotlit British wrestlers like Zack Gibson, as mentioned above, and Flash Morgan Webster during the event so these are two names we could see take part. Then there are the usual suspects like Wolfgang, Trent Seven, Tyler Bate, Mark Andrews and of course current UK Champ Pete Dunne.

Author's take

Okay, so it isn't a fully fledged UK show that I've been waiting and hoping for, but I'll definitely take another WWE tournament shining a spotlight on the fantastic wrestlers we have here in the UK.
