WWE News: WWE announces UK championship special

The WWE has announced a UK Championship special that goes down later this month.

What’s the story?

The WWE has announced a United Kingdom Championship special that will air on the WWE Network on May 19th. The event will take place in Norwich, UK, with WWE Hall-of-Fame announcer Jim Ross calling the show, alongside colour commentator Nigel McGuiness.

In case you didn’t know...

The WWE unveiled the United Kingdom title in December of last year, later organising a UK Championship Tournament that would be won by Tyler Bate who is the first and current WWE UK champion.

The heart of the matter

In lieu of the WWE’s global expansion plans including several marquee markets in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, the promotion will now feature a special event dedicated toward the UK championship. The upcoming May 19th (May 18th in The UK) show will be headlined by WWE United Kingdom champion Tyler Bate as he defends his belt against Mark Andrews.

Furthermore, the card also boasts a matchup between Pete Dunne and Trent Seven in order to determine the number-1 contender for the aforementioned WWE UK title.

Elsewhere on the card, Wolfgang faces Joseph Conners, whereas Rich Swann and Dan Moloney compete against TJP and The Brian Kendrick in a tag-team matchup. Here’s what WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative Triple H (Paul Levesque) had to say regarding the same-

“The WWE United Kingdom Championship Special will showcase some of the best talent from the UK. This is an opportunity to super-serve our fans in the UK, as well as fans anywhere who appreciate the U.K. style.”

What’s next?

The WWE United Kingdom Special airs live from Norwich, UK this May 19th at 3 pm E.T. The re-air is scheduled at 8 pm E.T. Fans can watch the event live on the WWE Network.

Author’s take

The WWE is making huge strides in its global expansion agenda and increasing its already prominent global brand, by showcasing local talent on the WWE Network programming.

The UK championship contenders are highly talented individuals and in case you haven’t watched them in action apart from the odd Tyler Bate matchup on NXT, you guys are missing out.

Fans of professional wrestling ought to tune in to the WWE Network come May 19th, and hey, with good ol’ JR on the commentary team, do expect some Bah Gawd! Jaw-dropping moments to be highlighted at the event!
