WWE News: WWE announce UK tournament to crown UK Champion in February 2017

The WWE United Kingdom Championship

WWE has announced a special United Kingdom tournament to take place in January 2017, with the winner of the tournament to be crowned the first ever WWE United Kingdom Champion. Triple H made the landmark announcement at a press conference at London’s O2 Arena today (December 15th), with more details expected throughout the day.

The tournament will feature 16 British and Irish wrestlers and will take place over two days at Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom in January, with the matches being taped on January 14th and 15th to be broadcast on the WWE Network.

WWE has also released an image of what the championship belt will look like, with the strap following a more traditional Championship belt design as opposed to the sleek aesthetics of other belts introduced this year.

As for who will compete, several major UK names are expected to be involved. Current PROGRESS World Champion Pete Dunne is expected to be there, alongside British Strong Style stablemates Trent Seven and Tyler Bate, ICW Champion Wolfgang and several more.

The tournament will be co-hosted by British wrestling legend Nigel McGuinness, and tickets for the shows will be available from midday today (UK time) from livenation.co.uk.
