The McMahon family must be thrilled with these new records!

What’s the story?

Wrestlemania 33 in Orlando last weekend wasn't just one of the most successful events for WWE, it was a record-breaking one as well. After announcing the massive attendance and sales records that were created as a result of WrestleMania 33, WWE announced more record-breaking performances from last weekend in Orlando, Florida.

In case you didn't know...

Wrestlemania 33 saw a staggering 75,245 fans fill up the Orlando Citrus Bowl Stadium, making it a record for the venue. In addition to this, with $14.5 in sales, it was also the highest grossing event in the history of the stadium, so far.

The heart of the matter

WWE set at least four more records at WrestleMania 33. Firstly, over five days (WWE Axxess, WWE Hall of Fame, NXT Takeover: Orlando, Wrestlemania, Raw and Smackdown Live), they pulled an unbelievable number of people (165.000 to be precise) to watch the shows.

Moreover, in terms of merchandise sales, WWE broke its own record ($2.3 million last year) as it clocked an unbelievable 164% increase to score $3.7 million in revenue, this year. WrestleMania this year was watched by 1.95 million homes across the world on the WWE Network and hence, was the most watched WrestleMania in the history of the company.

Lastly, with 5.19 million interactions during the course of the broadcast and 2.8 million tweets across the entire day, WrestleMania set a social media record as well on Facebook and Twitter.

What’s next?

With WrestleMania 34 already advertised to happen in New Orleans, one has to wait and see whether WWE will be able to beat its own records and set new ones.

Author's take

While some may say that the product is nowhere as good as it once used to be, as a company, WWE is healthier than ever before. WrestleMania is always a spectacle that draws fans from across the world, and WWE is forever looking to up the ante, year after year.
