What's the story?
The WWE Universe's official Twitter account posted an interesting image yesterday, teasing what would be a huge women's match for WrestleMania 34. The Four Horsewomen of NXT (Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Bayley and Sasha Banks) were pictured, but their opponents were unidentified.
In case you didn't know...
The Four Horsewomen of NXT have long been considered the main reason for the women's revolution. It may have started with Paige and Emma on the developmental show, but the four took it to a whole other level before transferring that success to the main roster.
The four are now split across the two brands of the main roster but have long been linked to a huge WrestleMania tag team match against the Four Horsewomen of MMA (Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke). Reports suggest the match has been in the pipeline for a long while.
The heart of the matter
The WWE Universe's Twitter account posted the somewhat cryptic photo last night, and fans are in no confusion as to who the four silhouettes may represent. This is almost certainly teasing a battle of the two Four Horsewomen.
At the recently completed Mae Young Classic, the two groups of women had a face-to-face that led many to believe a match was inevitable. Shayna Baszler made it all the way to the final of that tournament, eventually coming up short against winner Kairi Sane.
It has been confirmed that Rousey, at one time the biggest draw in all of mixed martial arts, has been training to become a professional wrestler. Rousey famously appeared in the ring alongside The Rock at WrestleMania 31, getting the upper hand on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
The potential 4-on-4 tag team match has been spoken of by critics and fans alike, but this is one of the first times that WWE has explicitly teased the match themselves. Can we expect to see Rousey, Baszler and company invading WWE anytime soon?
What's next?
WrestleMania 34 is still six months away, so there is plenty of time for plans to change ahead of the big show. The women of the main roster are currently divided themselves, scheduled to do battle in a RAW vs. SmackDown Live 5-on-5 Survivor Series elimination match.
Baszler recently arrived at the WWE Performance Center following her impressive performance in the Mae Young Classic. There is plenty of time for this match to come together.
Author's take
Is this long-rumoured match going to happen? Six months is a long time in any world, let alone professional wrestling. It is just as likely that WrestleMania 34 will feature Asuka vs. Rousey as it is this tag team match.
It would be an impressive spectacle to see the Four Horsewomen battle, but I feel as though there may be better options available to WWE.
