WWE News: AJ Styles reveals he wants to face Shawn Michaels at Royal Rumble

Could the Heat Break Kid make an appearance at Royal Rumble?

After twenty years, the Royal Rumble pay-per-view will be returning to the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. We can expect both the WWE World and Universal Championships to be defended at the pay-per-view and it doesn’t seem that WWE will make their top champions defend the belt in a Royal Rumble match like this year.

With just a few months left for the show, fans have already started to speculate the potential contenders for the championship bout. Rumours circulating on various platforms of social media indicate that the hometown boy, WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, will be involved with the show.

Moreover, the fans may witness the ‘Heart Break Kid’ in action for the first time since 2010. Regarding such rumours, the current WWE World Champion AJ Styles commented that he would love to compete against Michaels. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the Phenomenal One stated :

“I’d love to learn from him, but who’s to say if that’s going to happen. Right now, it’s all speculation and rumours that I’m finding out like everyone else is, but man, what a match that would be.”

Several wrestlers have come back from retirement to wrestle once again in the squared circle. As of now, Shawn Michaels has successfully kept his vow to not return to in-ring competition.

Despite making appearances in multiple WWE events and planting Sweet Chin Music on various wrestlers, his match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26, remains his last.

As it will also be the 30th anniversary of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, the WWE is trying to make it more memorable one.

In fact, they released a video to provide a ‘special look’ about the upcoming event:

Last year, Styles debuted in WWE during the Royal Rumble match and this year he may be the defending World Championship. Undoubtedly, a dream match for numerous wrestling fans will become a reality if he actually collides with Shawn Michaels.
