What's the story?

On this week's episode of SmackDown Live, WWE superstar Xavier Woods faced Cesaro in a singles Match. Last week he had faced and defeated Sheamus, but this week it was a different story.

During the finish of the match, Woods was struck with Cesaro's European Upper Cut while he was jumping from the top rope. The move caused him an injury which left him bleeding. Woods later took to Twitter to reveal the nature of his injury.

In case you didn't know...

The New Day was a part of the Triple Threat Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania. Though they were unable to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles, they came close. The titles were won by the Bludgeon Brothers.

The last time Xavier Woods suffered an injury, it was an on-screen one at the hands of the Bludgeon Brothers when he was hit with a Power Bomb onto the Steel Steps.

Cesaro himself suffered an injury to his mouth during a match at No Mercy, when he was catapulted onto the Ring post. His teeth were smashed into his gums and he needed surgery to repair the damage.

The heart of the matter

During the match, it looked like things were going Xavier Woods' way. He was about to perform a big flying move from the top rope onto Cesaro, but the Swiss Cyborg was able to land a vicious Upper Cut to end the match and pick up the win.

The Upper Cut was not as clean as either star would have preferred and it appeared as if Woods had bitten down on his tongue. This seems to be the case, as he lay there bleeding from his mouth and later updated the fans on Twitter about his condition.

He said that losing 'sucks' and that he had a hole in his tongue, before wishing the fans a begrudging good night.

What's next?

While the severity of the injury is not known, hopefully, it is nothing too serious. Xavier Woods is advertised to appear for next week's SmackDown Live at the O2 Arena in London.

Author's take

Injuries remain a part and parcel of life as a wrestler, and while a hole in the tongue must hurt, at least it was nothing worse. Woods may need time to recover and hopefully will be fine soon. We at Sportskeeda wish Xavier Woods a speedy recovery.
