What’s the story?

During a recent Q&A session on Twitter, Cody Rhodes revealed his pick for the best pro-wrestling match ever.

In response to a fan’s tweet, Cody asserted that the WrestleMania 18 encounter between The Rock and Hulk Hogan is indeed the greatest match ever.

In case you didn’t know…

The aforementioned matchup between The Rock and Hulk Hogan was promoted by the WWE as a clash of two different eras, 'Icon vs Icon'.

The Rock defeated Hogan in their all-important WrestleMania 18 matchup. However, the build-up to the showdown, as well as the electricity in the arena coupled with, how well-received the matchup was by the millions of fans watching the world over, resulted in the entire feud being heralded by fans and experts as one of the best ever.

The heart of the matter

Apparently, a fan opined that the WrestleMania 13 match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bret Hart was the best ever.

In response to which, Cody asserted that The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 18 was the best match ever; stating—

“The best match ever is Hogan/Rock. When I ask my friends their all-time favorite if they say anything else...I can determine they haven't grasped what wrestling is yet.”

What’s next?

Cody Rhodes presently performs on the independent professional wrestling circuit; primarily competing for NJPW and ROH.

Rhodes is now the self-proclaimed leader of Bullet Club, having ousted Kenny Omega from the group earlier this year.

Author’s take

Honestly speaking, I’ve got to agree with Cody Rhodes here, in the sense that the Brahma Bull’s iconic showdown with the Hulkster at WrestleMania 18, was a match where everything seemingly fell into place.

The crowd went back and forth in their support for both legendary Superstars, and The Rock and Hogan beautifully worked the match, adapting their mat work and taunts according to the crowd reaction.
