The Fatal 4-Way will take place at NXT TakeOver: War Games

What's the story?

On last night's episode of NXT, Ember Moon defeated Ruby Riot and Sonya Deville to confirm her place in the Fatal 4-Way at NXT TakeOver: War Games. That match will crown a new NXT Women's Champion.

In case you didn't know...

For the past 18 months, NXT's women's division has been dominated by one individual - Asuka. Ever since The Empress of Tomorrow choked Bayley out at NXT TakeOver: Dallas, the woman with the biggest target on her back has not only avoided being taken down, but has obliterated all who have stood before her.

All good things must come to an end, however. Asuka vacated the title following her win over Ember Moon at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III. The Empress of Tomorrow is about to make her RAW debut, but the NXT Women's Championship remains vacant - who will be the next to hold this prestigious title?

The heart of the matter

After weeks of deliberation, NXT GM William Regal announced that a Fatal 4-Way would take place at NXT TakeOver: War Games to decide a new champion. By virtue of winning the Mae Young Classic, Kairi Sane earned her way into the match on November 18 in Philadelphia.

Last week on NXT, Peyton Royce joined Sane in the match after beating Nikki Cross and Liv Morgan in a triple threat match. Ember Moon became the third entrant in similar fashion last night, when the former number one contender vanquished Sonya Deville and Ruby Riot on NXT.

The finish was unique, to say the least. Deville seemed to be moments away from punching her ticket to War Games, as she held Riot in an ankle lock for a lengthy period, before Ember came out of nowhere and hit Sonya with the Eclipse. This allowed Moon to pin Ruby Riot for the 1-2-3.

What's next?

With a month to go until NXT TakeOver: War Games, three of the four competitors in the match are known. Kairi Sane, Ember Moon and Peyton Royce will all vie for the NXT Women's Championship, and the fourth individual will be confirmed on next week's episode.

A battle royal will be held next week to finish the line-up.

Author's take

This match is setting up to be very interesting indeed. When Asuka was on her record-smashing run, many believed that Ember Moon would be the one to dethrone her. Is Ember still the next in line? We won't have to wait long to find out.
