An explosive new era of NXT began this week!
An explosive new era of NXT began this week!

The show began with an nWo style backstage scene, in which various performers from NXT were laid out in the back, seemingly by unknown assailants. Percy Watson attributed the beatdown to Adam Cole's new gang, but McGuinness retorted with a quip saying they were innocent until proven guilty. The theme song of the new NXT Champion Drew McIntyre played as he strode to the arena.

He got a nice babyface pop from the audience. He mentioned how the championship was his life, but he was not naive and knew that the title came with a bull's eye attached. He mentioned Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish by name, and said he was putting the locker room on notice.

His challenge was answered by Roderick Strong who said that all he cared about was him, his family and the NXT Championship and said he would be gunning for McIntyre's title after he defeated Bobby Roode in the main event. McIntyre said he was glad that Strong stepped up to him like a man but told him to be ready to get knocked down like a man. We cut to backstage footage of Bobby Roode saying that despite him getting called to the main roster, he had unfinished business to take care of in NXT with Roderick Strong.

We saw news pertaining to Asuka's collarbone injury and found out that she would be arriving the following week to update everyone about her future.

The two women initially exchanged rest holds and went to the mat as Royce locked on the head scissors on her opponent. Riot managed to power out of it, and drop Royce with a drop kick. Royce powered out of Riot's arm bar and hit a forearm to Riot's face. Royce then seized the advantage by having Riot's neck snap off the ropes. Peyton tossed Ruby to the outside where Billie Kay stood by, playing with her thick, luscious hair.

We came back from commercial to see Riot power out of a sleeper hold and drop Royce with clotheslines and a drop kick. Riot hit Royce's face with a kick in the corner but did not manage to get the three count. Riot went up to the top rope, and Royce climbed the turnbuckle to deliver a suplex to her.

While unsuccessful at first, a distraction from Kay allowed Royce to deliver a Death Valley Driver. Shockingly, Ruby Riot kicked out at two. She ducked a spin kick and delivered a power bomb. This time, Royce kicked out at two. Kay pulled out Royce and this allowed Riot to deliver a suicide dive to the two women.

Back in the ring, Royce caused a distraction with the apron, allowing Kay to deliver a big kick on the outside. Royce delivered a fisherman's suplex to pick up the big win.

We saw William Regal make a no-DQ match between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami for next week. We also saw Roderick Strong getting ready for the main event. A graphic informed us that Heavy Machinery was up next.

Heavy Machinery vs. Damien Aweel & Edwin Negron

This was set to be a squash and did not disappoint. Aweel showed some tenacity as he climbed up the turnbuckle during a lock up, but was overpowered by Otis Dozovich. Tucker Knight was tagged in and the two men quashed Aweel between their frames. Somehow, Aweel made a tag and Edward Negron was tagged in. A crossbody by Tucker Knight took both men out. Stinger splashes, a Lou Thesz Press and a Compactor followed from Heavy machinery who easily picked up the win.

We saw William Regal confront Lars Sullivan and tell him that his actions have consequences and that he will face three men on NXT, next week.

We saw two big matches for next week being advertised on NXT before the main event came along.

Bobby Roode vs. Roderick Strong

The crowd knew the result of this match in advance, chanting 'thank you, Bobby'. As Roode taunted Strong, the latter did not let him go into his trademark 'glorious' pose, shoving him to the ground instantly. Fast paced action followed, ending with Roode grabbing a headlock on Strong, on the ground.

Roddy showed off his fury with a drop kick and some ground and pound action. Strong followed up with some chops and a massive backbreaker thereafter. As Roode tried to leave the ring, Strong delivered yet another backbreaker to him.

The two men traded blows on the apron, as Roode pushed Strong first into the ring post and then into the steel steps. Roode cemented his dominance with a spine-buster on the outside of the ring, as we headed into commercial.

Roode could not pick up the win with a clothesline to the corner and a neckbreaker. He followed it up with two backbreakers. Strong mounted some offence but was thrown into the corner. The Messiah of the Backbreaker was now selling his own back injury. Strong got some measure of offence in with a gutbuster on the double knees.

The two men traded blows in an impressive sequence, again ending in a backbreaker to Roode. Roode barely kicked out at 2. Roode kicked out of a power bomb and then a Boston Crab. Roode scored with a fireman's carry but could not pick up the three, following it up with a spinebuster. Strong blocked the 'Glorious DDT' and delivered a running high knee.

The two men brawled on the turnbuckle, and Strong delivered an enziguri to Roode. Roddy delivered a massive suplex to Roode, at this point, from the top rope. Even this could not score a three count.

The two men exchanged punches and kicks, ultimately ending with the Glorious DDT. Somehow Roddy got his foot on the rope. Roode tried to embarrass Strong with a slap but a hard knee hit him on the side of his face from Roderick Strong. Two more followed. Two End of a Heartaches followed. Strong blew Roode a kiss and picked up the big win. The perfect culmination to a great storyline.

Drew McIntyre came out to appraise the situation, but he was blindsided by Cole, O'Reilly and Fish, who left through the crowd as security arrived. William Regal chased them out to the parking lot, where they retreated while making threats.
