Johnny Gargano tries to quell Big Boy Summer at NXT TakeOver
In a big surprise, it was the resident Thicc Boi of NXT that won the North American Championship Eliminator Gauntlet on Night One of TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.
It was a stellar showcase for all the men involved, but in the end, Bronson Reed emerged victorious and became the new challenger for Johnny TakeOver.
The NXT NA Champion was already nervous about not knowing his opponent prior to his title defense. Though he seemed confident at the end of this match on Night One, Gargano may not be happy about facing someone with the size and power of The Colossal One.
Reed has had quite the rise since his embarrassing loss to Karrion Kross in the summer of 2020. Since his return a few weeks later, he's been an entirely new beast and one that's taken every single competitor in NXT to their breaking points. One has to wonder if The Way may get involved somewhat going into this matchup.
Dexter Lumis was the favorite heading into TakeOver, as he's got an ongoing story with the group. So, Gargano may be excited that he's not dealing with NXT's Tortured Artist. Still, Bronson Reed may be more dangerous than Lumis, and one that can end the match at a moment's notice.
Despite this tall ask, no one should ever count Johnny Gargano out. We've seen him pull out wins at terrible odds, so the North American Champion may have a plan for Reed.
If The Colossal One can walk away with the title, he'll prove himself as a future main eventer in the eyes of the fans. It could very well be Thicc Boi season during this year's WrestleMania month.
