WWE Payback 2017: 5 rules for your Payback drinking game

Payback is around the corner

It’s that time of the month again, folks! Yet another WWE pay per view is almost upon us, and this time it’s WWE Payback that’s coming up this Sunday. The first PPV since Wrestlemania will see a great many old feuds put to rest and open doors for some new – and hopefully exciting – storylines going forward.

Just like we did for Wrestlemania 33, we’re here to help you and your friends have as much fun as possible by coming up with some fun drinking game rules. This way, if the pay per view sucks, at least you’ll be nice and buzzed at the end of it!

There are some hardcore rules in this game so make sure you eat and hydrate well to be in the best possible condition to enjoy Payback to the fullest. So, without any further ado, here are 5 rules for your WWE Payback 2017 drinking game:

#5 Take a sip every time Wrestlemania 33 is mentioned

Let’s pay homage to WrestleMania 33

Our first rule is a bit of a throwback to earlier this month and recently concluded Wrestlemania 33. Despite The Show of Shows being the biggest show of the year and the time to blow off old feuds, it is actually WWE Payback where all the scores are settled once and for all.

So, with that in mind, we pay homage to The Grandest Stage of Them All, and the best Wrestlemania we’ve seen in years through our drinking games. So, take a sip everytime anybody at all mentions Wrestlemania 33 or even Wrestlemania in general. Bonus points if you see a Wrestlemania fan sign and drink for that as well.

With how much the WWE loves to harp on about Wrestlemania, this should get you nice and tipsy. The perfect all night rule that won’t have you throwing up.

#4 Take a big sip every time the WWE Network or a WWE App is promoted

Bet on WWE to shamelessly plug the Network

Remember what I just said about the WWE loving to harp on about Wrestlemania? Well, if there’s one thing the WWE likes to harp on about more than the immortal Wrestlemania, it’s the WWE Network. It’s just for $9.99, you know. Oh and those strange apps and games they make.

The Network and these apps are always plugged and promoted over the course of pay per views, and it should be no different this time at WWE Payback. So, let’s use it to our advantage...or disadvantage depending on how much you like big sips of your drink.

For our second drinking rule, take a big sip every time the WWE Network or a WWE App is promoted and pray to God that they’ve gone easy on the promo material this time, or you’re liable to be throwing up before the end of the show.

#3 Take a sip every time Michael Cole uses one of his “signature catchphrases.”

You will take several

Michael Cole cannot seem to get away from his reputation as a pretty terrible commentator, even if he is the voice of the WWE. One of the major reasons for that are his utterly atrocious signature catchphrases.

How many times do you hear “Oh my!”, “Kick out at two and a half!”, or “Vintage Randy Orton” over the course of one show? It gets tends to get on people's nerves when that count was quite clearly nowhere near two and a half.

But, Cole’s loss is our gain. Well, it’s still our loss because we have to hear these phrases, but what I mean is that we can actually use it to our advantage here. So, anytime one his useless phrases is heard on commentary, go ahead and take a sip.

Nothing more as you’ll probably die of alcohol poisoning if you drink any more than that.

#2 Down your drink for every face turn/heel turn/surprise return/debut

Fingers crossed

This is one that I’ve personally been a fan of since WhatCulture made it famous in their reaction videos, and it’s one that's quite simple to understand and use in all situations with the potential of getting you drunk to the gills or keep you sober as a monk depending on what decisions the WWE has made.

So, for any of the classic face turns, heel turns, surprise returns, or debuts, down your whole drink. This is obviously a hardcore rule, but the chances of multiple instances of these events are unlikely to say the very least.

#1 Take a shot for every title that doesn’t change hands

Don’t expect too many title changes at Payback

The purpose of a drinking game is to get drunk. So, that’s what this last rule is all about. The chances of more than one title changing hands at Payback are slim to none, so we’ll use that to our advantage.

Take a shot of whatever your heart desires – preferably tequila – for every champion that retains his belt. Nice and simple to close things out over here. So, go on and have a great time with WWE Payback.

I would like to sign off by saying one final thing: Don’t overdo and abuse alcohol, drink responsibly, and please do not drink and drive. Here’s to a merry WWE Payback!
