What’s the story?

In a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio, veteran Pro Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that that the WWE is currently interested in signing Indy superstar Tessa Blanchard.

In case you didn’t know…

Since making her Pro Wrestling debut just four years ago in 2014, Blanchard has certainly made a huge name for herself in this industry having competed for some of the best wrestling promotions around the globe right now.

Blanchard, who is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Tully Blanchard, is currently competing on the Independent circuit for promotions such as Shimmer Women’s Athlete, WrestleCircus, Shine Wrestling, and top Japanese puroresu promotion World Wonder Ring Stardom.

The heart of the matter

In the past, Blanchard has already competed under the WWE banner on numerous occasions, having wrestled for the company’s developmental brand of NXT back in 2016, when she wrestled against the likes of Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax, and Carmella, but only as an enhancement talent. (H/T: 411 Mania)

However, most notably, Blanchard was a part of WWE’s inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017, where she was eliminated from the tournament in the first round following a loss to eventual winner Kairi Sane.

As noted, Meltzer of The Observer has now reported that during WrestleMania 34 weekend, several WWE officials were apparently present at Shimmer 100 in New Orleans in order to get a closer look at Blanchard, who faced-off against Shazza McKenzie during the event in a singles match for the Heart of Shimmer Championship.

According to Meltzer, Blanchard has been on WWE’s radar for a long period of time, however, the current WC Lady of Ring Champion hasn’t been signed by the Sports Entertainment Company for some sort of reason.

What’s next?

As aforementioned, Blanchard is currently competing on the Indy circuit and only time will tell if Ricochet’s real-life partner joins him on the NXT roster anytime soon.

Author’s Take

Blanchard, in my opinion, will certainly be a huge addition to the NXT Women’s Division, which according to me, is currently lacking depth and is in need of some brand new female faces.
