WWE/ROH News: Ring of Honor COO denies WWE rumours

Are we about to see WWE shake up the pro wrestling industry once again?

What's the story?

Ring of Honor COO Joe Koff recently commented on the constant rumours surrounding the potential sale of the company to World Wrestling Entertainment. Koff made his statement during an interview with the Baltimore Sun.

In case you didn't know...

For the last few weeks now, wrestling fans have been debating back and forth over the claims that WWE is preparing to buy ROH. The legitimacy of these rumours has neither been confirmed nor denied, however, it has offered members of the WWE Universe a chance to fantasy book a string of potential matches involving both WWE and ROH stars.

The Heart of the matter

During the aforementioned interview, Chief Operating Officer Koff spoke about a number of topics with the following being his quote regarding the sale.

"It was not a story. It was not a story when it came out. I think people want to make a story out of nothing. I'm very open in conversations with very many different wrestling promotions. And I think sometimes because I don't share a lot of stuff, we're very private about what we do. I think it raises speculation. I think this thing with the WWE really started because we were in conversations about content for Kevin Owens' DVD. There was a lot of back and forth between the two companies. I think that was the seed that drove that story."

What's next?

Given Ring of Honor's current position, we'll likely keep hearing about this for weeks and months on end. However, the best course of action for both companies would probably be for them to focus solely on what they're doing and nothing else. After all, the odds of Vince McMahon cutting a promo on how he purchased ROH like he did with WCW are slim to none.

Author's take

It'd be great to see a number of the rumoured ROH stars make the transition over to WWE, but at the same time the company is too established at this point, and it'd be a shame to see it go. ROH has always been the place where all of the top independent talents go to put on the best show possible, and we want to see that continue for many years to come.
