WWE Rumor Mill: WWE may be interested in signing LAX?

LAX has been a staple in Impact Wrestling for the last two years.
LAX has been a staple in Impact Wrestling for the last two years.

What's the story?

Ringsidenews.com is reporting via Mike Johnson's PWInsider Radio that the current Impact Tag Team Champions, LAX, have garnered interest from WWE.

LAX was slated to face current Evolve Tag Team Champions the Street Profits on December 15th but the match between the two teams of champions was eventually pulled off the table.

Johnson noted in another report on PWInsider.com that it was Impact behind the match getting pulled.

In case you didn't know...

LAX has been booked as one of the top teams ever since they debuted with Impact Wrestling over two years ago.

The young team of Ortiz and Santana, formerly known as the team of EYFBO in Combat Zone Wrestling, has had two reigns as tap champs in Impact Wrestling and they are the current tag team title holders.

They've been under the tutelage of industry mainstay Konnan and have had great feuds with OVE (Ohio vs. Everything aka the Crist Brothers), Decay (Abyss and Crazzy Steve) and the OGz (the original LAX of Hernandez and Homicide).

OVE and LAX had memorable matches involving the Impact Tag Team Titles including street fights and other hardcore matches.

They've helped carry the Impact tag division and clearly, WWE has taken notice.

The heart of the matter

LAX facing Evolve Tag Team Champions the Street Profits was set up for next month but was ultimately scrapped.

Johnson believes the reason for the match getting scrapped was from Impact's side:

“Impact, I was told specifically they didn’t want LAX in the ring with NXT guys. They didn’t want there to be footage in the WWE video library of TNA guys getting beaten by WWE guys.”

Even before Impact reportedly pulled LAX from the appearance, WWE had clearly had the talented young team on their radars.

What's next?

It is disappointing that the match was taken off the table, but you can understand Impact's reasoning.

WWE wouldn't want footage in the Impact library of its talents losing to Impact wrestlers.

Even though the match did get canceled, the fact still remains that WWE is obviously interested in Ortiz and Santana.

They're both talented young wrestlers who have made their marks in every promotion in which they've competed.

They both seem like likable young men and WWE is still always looking for the next big Latino babyface or babyfaces to eventually take over the mantle from Rey Mysterio Jr.

LAX allegedly has contracts that are up in the first quarter of 2019, so even though it was a pre-emptive strike by Impact, it might only be a matter of time before Ortiz and Santana are parts of the NXT/WWE roster.
