#1. More details on WWE's third-party ban
WWE's latest edict continues to dominate the headlines as the reactions to it have been overwhelmingly negative.
In case you didn't know, WWE has told its talents to stop engaging with third-party platforms such as Cameo and Twitch. The Superstars have been given thirty days to cease all relations, and the inability to do so could lead to fines, suspensions, and abrupt contract terminations.
Vince McMahon even sent a letter to the talents in which he outlined the company's directive on engaging with third-party platforms. WWE also reportedly told the talents that they own the rights to their real names. The entire situation has not been well-received backstage.
There is also a lot of confusion regarding the new rule. Dave Meltzer revealed on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio that many people backstage are unsure about what the new edict means.
Cameo and Twitch are said to be on the list of banned platforms, but the assumption is that YouTube is safe.
Here's what Meltzer stated on the WOR:
"As far as I know, nobody seems to know what it means. They think it means no Cameo; they think it means no Twitch. I know it means no [Bang Energy]. Lana did a commercial for them. I was told that specifically, that and Twitch."
"Nobody exactly knows. The assumption is that YouTube is fine; that's the assumption. The assumption is Twitch is not fine. I know that doing commercials for anybody is not fine, that I know. That was always gonna be not fine. The one that has a lot of people upset was them telling people that they own their real names because everyone knew that WWE owns your stage names, of course. That's a given. But the idea that they own your real names, I don't know what that means, and it hasn't been explained, but I know talent has been told that because when Paige switched one of her things to Saraya, it was like that ain't gonna fly because it's still banned, I guess. We'll see how it all plays out…Most of the talent is not happy, from what I gather." H/t WrestlingNews.co
The WWE talents are reportedly quite unhappy, and it would be interesting to see how the situation plays out in the weeks to follow.
