Rey Mysterio's career resurgence has been one of the better-booked angles on WWE TV of late as the Master of the 619 prepares for a battle against Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series. It feels like 2003 again!

However, there could be a reason why WWE is actively pushing the 42-year-old Mysterio in a top world title feud.

A report from WrestlingNews suggests that Rey Mysterio's current contract will come to an end soon as he had signed a 2-year deal with the company in September 2018.

It's interesting to note that Mysterio's contract had a clause which would enable the former WWE Champion to opt-out of the deal after 18 months if he wished to.

That means Mysterio could leave the company around WrestleMania if he doesn't plan to complete the two years on his contract.

However, Mysterio's current position and the fact his son Dominick is being built up for an in-ring debut in the WWE, should keep Rey in the company for some more time.

WWE knows Mysterio's value and would not want the popular Superstar to join AEW. Also, the future Hall of Famer is reaching the end of his in-ring career and would ideally like his final match to happen inside a WWE ring.

As stated earlier, Rey Mysterio will take on Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at the upcoming Survivor Series PPV on November 24th.

Rey has also been advertised to face Bray Wyatt for the Universal Championship in a Steel Cage match at a live event in Mexico City on November 30th.
