In a surprising move, WWE had released former 5-time World Champion Kurt Angle when they released multiple Superstars due to the COVID-19 pandemic budget cuts. However, even though the former WWE Champion is not under contract, he did make an appearance on NXT as the special guest referee in the match between Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher.
As per WrestlingNews.co, Vince McMahon wants Kurt Angle back and he is worried that the Olympic Hero may join AEW otherwise

“If they haven’t signed him already then they will make an offer to him soon. Vince doesn’t want to lose him to AEW,” said a WWE source.
They also revealed that Vince McMahon respects Kurt Angle and wants him back even in a non-wrestling role:
The person I spoke to knows that Kurt would likely not wrestle elsewhere after July but his name means a lot and Vince McMahon would rather not have him appear on a TV show for a competing company.
The report also states that some other producers who had been furloughed may be brought back.
