WWE rumors: AJ Styles may be the Superstar Of The Year 2016

AJ Styles has become the most important superstar for SmackDown Live

With the year coming to an end, the WWE Universe is geared up for the SLAMMY awards. It is one of the must-see episodes of Monday Night RAW that promises some conflicts, twists and some memorable moments. It will be a night that crowns the OMG moment of the year, the match of the year and, of course, the male and female Superstars of the year.

While the year has been a defining one for wrestling fans, no man has been able to match the brilliance of AJ Styles. Whatculture.com reports that Styles may, in fact, win the SLAMMY award for Superstar of the Year. Styles made his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble in January. Since then he has put on some of the best matches in WWE history.

Styles entered the Royal Rumble at number 3, amidst maddening cheers from the WWE Universe at the Amway Center. After a great show at the Rumble, Styles began a storyline with Jericho and faced Y2J at WrestleMania. The night after WrestleMania, Styles became the number 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

He managed to get some great matches out of Roman Reigns. His matches with AJ Styles may be some of the best of Reigns’ career. With WWE management supporting him, Styles then moved into a new angle with John Cena.

Styles turned heel and got into a heated rivalry with John Cena. It was seen as the change of guard for the WWE going into the New Era. Attacking John Cena made the WWE Universe like Styles even more. WWE capitalised on Styles’ popularity, and Styles now holds two victories over Cena in singles competition.

Their clash at SummerSlam is a match of the year candidate. He also beat John Cena and Dean Ambrose in a triple threat match at No Mercy.

Styles was drafted to SmackDown Live and soon became the most important Superstar on the roster. He has, in fact, carried the blue brand for the remainder of the year on the back of some thrilling performances, including the traditional Survivor Series 5-on-5 match.

Styles won the WWE World Championship from Dean Ambrose at BackLash, thus becoming one of the fastest men to win the title after his debut. His performances inside the ring were top notch, and even a wardrobe malfunction at TLC could not ruin his momentum.

Although Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose have had a decent run this year, AJ Styles is a clear winner in this category.
