WWE Rumors: Dean Ambrose to undergo another character change before he leaves

One final babyface run before the end?
One final babyface run before the end?

What's the story?

It's all been Dean Ambrose this past week. A statement issued by the WWE confirmed that the former WWE Champion won't be renewing his contract after WrestleMania 35.

It's undoubtedly a big blow for the WWE in the wake of AEW rising to be a viable alternative for the pro wrestling faithful. While all signs point to the WWE departure of Ambrose, the promotion may be lining up a face turn for the superstar before he does eventually walk away after the Show of Shows in April.

In case you didn't know...

Ambrose, along with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns has been one of the flagbearers of the New Era in WWE for well over five years now. However, the Lunatic Fringe's career seems underwhelming when compared to the Architect and the Big Dog.

Ambrose is reportedly unhappy with his creative direction in the company and feels that he deserves much better than the mediocre angles that have been offered to him. His recent heel turn too has failed to capture the imagination of the fans and it has all contributed to the Grand Slam Champion's overall unhappiness with his position.

The former Shield member even rejected a proposed WWE contract which had a substantial pay raise as he firmly intends on being given more creative freedom to express himself.

WWE, though, may have a plan in place for the popular star before he walks away from the company for good,

The heart of the matter

Ambrose worked the most recent live event in Saskatoon, Canada as a babyface and was part of the Intercontinental title Fatal 4-way main event. It should be noted that Ambrose was the one who took the pin at the end of the match in which Bobby Lashley successfully retained his title. This could be taken as a hint of a possible face turn that could transpire on WWE TV.

However, WWE is well aware that the fans who show up at house shows cheer for the heels who are traditional fan favourites, and with Ambrose falling into that list, the creative may have taken the decision to let him work as a babyface exclusively on the house show circuit.

It's a confusing situation, to say the least, as WWE could also be pushing Ambrose as a face in order to convince him to stay. It could also be perceived as a way of giving Ambrose a fitting farewell by letting the fans appreciate his worth.

What's next?

So is Ambrose actually done with the WWE or is it all an elaborate work? The fact that WWE had to publicly come out and address the reports itself makes us think something major could be in the works.

We will have to wait and watch whether Ambrose does turn face on the upcoming episodes of Raw or if he sees out his contract as the bad guy. The road to WrestleMania 35 just got another interesting subplot with real-life implications.
