WWE Rumors: Drew McIntyre may be NXT's top babyface moving forward

WWE may promote Drew McIntyre as a babyface in NXT.

What’s the story?

As reported by Cagesideseats, the WWE may be looking to push Drew McIntyre as the top babyface of its NXT brand from this point forward.

In case you didn’t know...

Drew McIntyre (real name- Andrew McLean Galloway) has performed for WWE, Impact Wrestling, ICW, as well as several other regional pro-wrestling promotions in his career. He wrestled under the ring name Drew Galloway for Impact from 2015 until his recent departure from the company in February of this year.

Drew McIntyre recently signed a new deal with the WWE and was shown on-screen sitting in the front row at NXT Takeover: Orlando on April 1st.

The heart of the matter:

After his recent departure from Impact Wrestling, it was revealed in an interview with ESPN that McIntyre has re-signed with the WWE to perform in its developmental territory NXT. Here’s what the Scottish former WWE Intercontinental champion had to say regarding the same:

“Well the answer’s pretty simple. I’ve won championships all across the world, I’ve helped build brands. So what’s the next logical thing for me to do? It’s to come here and win the NXT title.”

On having signed a full-time deal with WWE, McIntyre added:

“If that’s not clear enough for everybody, Drew McIntyre has signed with NXT.”

What’s next?

Former Impact Wrestling mainstay and 19-year industry veteran Bobby Roode currently holds the NXT Championship. A potential matchup between Drew McIntyre and Roode seems to be in the offing for NXT in the upcoming weeks.

Author’s take

Although a vast majority of professional wrestling fans have loved Drew as a heel regardless of what banner he performs under, the WWE seems to be planning on pushing him as a babyface. We as fans can do nothing more than speculate but I for one, am just happy about the fact that the young and talented Scotsman is back in the world’s premier pro-wrestling organisation.

My sincere request to WWE as a longtime fan: Please DO NOT use a talent like McIntyre as a jobber...cough...3MB. The terrible gimmick’s nightmares are still tough to get over. In this situation, the WWE should take a page out of the indie promotions’ playbook and just let McIntyre be himself. Babyface or heel, just book him well WWE!
