WWE Rumors: Update on Goldberg's current deal with WWE and a possibility of future appearances

Goldberg’s WWE deal saw him perform until WrestleMania 33

What’s the story?

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Goldberg’s contract with WWE has expired, but he is currently on a deal that allows them to sell his merchandise. It was also revealed that Brock Lesnar was a huge influence in Goldberg’s big return and subsequent push.

In case you didn’t know...

With the buzz around being a playable character on WWE 2K17, WWE decided to capitalise and bring Goldberg back to WWE after a 12-and-a-half-year absence. After receiving a great reception in his renewed rivalry against Brock Lesnar, Goldberg had renewed his contract all the way up till WrestleMania, that saw him wrestle matches at the Royal Rumble and Fastlane as well.

At Fastlane, Goldberg became the Universal Champion and faced Brock Lesnar in a blow-off match at WrestleMania 33, which the Beast Incarnate won. The next night on RAW after WrestleMania 33 Goldberg told the WWE Universe that they could, “Never say never”, hinting at a future return.

The heart of the matter

WON stated that WWE does not have immediate plans for Goldberg and that there is no rush to sign him to a new performer’s deal. One of the reasons is that there are no other promotions who can offer the same amount of money to the WCW legend as WWE can.

Another key point to note is that when Goldberg had returned, he had full trust in WWE’s creative direction and Brock Lesnar. Lesnar was invested in his program with Goldberg and made sure that Goldberg looked very strong since he was always going over in their WrestleMania match anyway.

This time around, Goldberg does not have Lesnar on his side to advocate for him. Regardless, it would not be surprising to see Goldberg back, as he likely makes far too much money for very few appearances.

What’s next?

Goldberg will be on a possible hiatus while Brock Lesnar will continue his reign as Universal champion, likely until the time he faces Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34.

Author’s take

It seems fairly clear that the WWE Universe has not seen the last of Goldberg. Given the deal he gets and the way he is booked, it would be hard for the 50-year old to turn down WWE’s heavy offer for him.

Perhaps a match at WrestleMania 34 would be fitting. Adding Goldberg to the WrestleMania 34 card would be a huge boost for the former Universal champion.

Who’s next? We will find out in time.
