WWE Rumors: Heath Slater and Rhyno to win the Smackdown Tag Team Championship?

Slater and Rhyno have been on a roll

It is incredible to think that in 2016, Heath Slater is one of the fan-favourite acts in the entire WWE roster. Slater toiled around for years and even spent a good part of 2016 with the Social Outcasts, not really doing much. However, after the draft, things changed. The draft special episode of Smackdown Live saw quite a few call-ups. Even post-Smackdown Live, Renee Young with guest panelists Booker T, Jerry Lawler and Lita looked through drafts that happened after the show. At the end of it all, Heath Slater was sitting alone in a room, and the lights were switched off. He was never drafted. This began a “Free Agent” storyline for Heath Slater, where he was appearing on both Raw and Smackdown Live, fighting through thick and thin to get a contract with either brand. In some manner or the other, he fell short, whether it was losing to the returning Jinder Mahal, having a contract taken away from him by Shane McMahon despite having technically won the match he was supposed to. He confronted Brock Lesnar, he faced Randy Orton and so much more, and through it all – he got over, more than anyone imagined.Despite being a free agent, Slater’s story has been featured a lot more on Smackdown Live, and currently, he is teaming up with Rhyno in the Smackdown Tag Team Championship tournament. Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon told Slater that only if he wins the tournament will he get a Smackdown Live contract. Slater and Rhyno have made it all the way to the finals of the tournament.Slater and Rhyno were originally scheduled to face American Alpha, who defeated The Usos in the Semi-Finals of the tournament. However, The Usos attacked Alpha, turning heel in the process. They attacked Gable’s leg, giving him a storyline injury, and thus making him unfit to compete in the finals. So, The Usos and The Hype Bros will be facing off at Backlash for the vacant spot at the finals against Slater and Rhyno. It was initially being said that The Usos would be winning the championships in order to get heat on them for Alpha to chase, but according to CageSide Seats, don’t be surprised if Slater and Rhyno end up with the titles. The finish may see Jason Jordan getting revenge for Chad Gable and costing The Usos the tag team championships. If this rumor is true, it will be the culmination of Heath Slater’s incredible “Free Agent” storyline.
