What's the story?

Fans weren't happy about Charlotte Flair winning the SmackDown Women's Championship from Asuka on the latest episode of SmackDown Live. However, according to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio, this was done by design and for a very good reason.

It has a lot to do with how WrestleMania 35 is going to end. Read on for more.

In case you didn't know...

WrestleMania 35 is set to feature the first-ever Women's main event, as RAW Women's Champion Ronda Rousey defends her title in a triple threat match against SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair and The Man and Royal Rumble 2019 winner Becky Lynch.

It's been a crazy ride, with many feeling the story has been overbooked and overcomplicated more than it should have been. With that said, there's absolutely nobody disputing their main event spot, because everyone feels that it is the biggest match on the card, well deserving to go on last and make history.

The heart of the matter

Dave Meltzer on WOR said that Charlotte winning the SmackDown Women's title had nothing to do with Asuka. It could have been Naomi or Carmella or anyone else on the roster, but Charlotte winning the title was done with a very specific purpose in mind.

The reason was so that WrestleMania 35 can end with all Four Horsewomen standing tall with the championships. Becky Lynch is very much expected to win the main event and become RAW Women's Championship.

It's also very unlikely that any of the three teams will dethrone The Boss 'N' Hug Connection at WrestleMania. This means that even with a loss, Charlotte can stand alongside Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley holding her championship up high.

Whether you agree with the decision or not, it will undoubtedly be a fantastic shot to close WrestleMania.

What's next?

We're all but ten days away from the grandest stage of them all. It's set to be a historic one. Sasha Banks & Bayley defend their WWE Women's tag team titles against three other teams, while Becky Lynch and Charlotte will make history in the main event. Stay tuned right here for the latest WrestleMania updates!
