WWE Rumors: Mick Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin done with the WWE

Are Mick Foley and Steve Austin done with WWE?

What’s the story?

Mick Foley and Steve Austin have had working relationships with WWE ever since they retired from the company. However, the “Texas Rattlesnake” and “Mrs Foley’s Baby Boy” may be done with WWE, at least for the time being, according to a report from NoDQ.com and F4WOnline.com.

In case you didn’t know...

Austin has been a hot commodity on the WWE Network for the past few years because of ‘The Stone Cold Podcast’, where he would interview different current and former WWE Superstars.

Always one of the more popular shows on the Network, The Stone Cold Podcast began on the Network in 2014 with Austin’s inaugural interview being with WWE Chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon.

Foley recently returned to WWE and was appointed the General Manager of RAW by Stephanie McMahon on July 18th, 2016. For a little less than a year, Foley and Steph’s relationship went from having contradicting views but remaining friends, to the two trying to embarrass the other every week and failing to agree on anything, which eventually led to the firing of Mick Foley as the GM of Raw a few weeks ago.

The heart of the matter

While the two legends have been mainstays in WWE since retiring, a recent report from NoDQ.com indicates that Foley and Austin may be done with WWE.

According to the report, Foley is “no longer employed by the WWE” and was never under contract with the company while performing as Raw’s General Manager. With recent news of Foley needing a hip replacement, the writing was on the wall for Foley’s current tenure with WWE. However, there are no current plans to use him after he’s fully recovered.

Unlike Foley, Austin has been under contract with WWE to produce his podcast on the Network for a few years now. However, according to the report, Austin’s contract has expired.

Considering the Network hasn’t produced an episode of his podcast since the beginning of August last year, many speculated that his contract was close to expiring. Also, Austin did not make any appearances in Orlando during Wrestlemania weekend, fueling the belief that he is done with the company.

What’s next?

It’s tough to say what’s next for these two legends of sports entertainment. Austin will surely continue his “Stone Cold Show”, which is his own podcast on PodcastOne that is not affiliated with WWE.

Mick is expected to take a great deal of time off following his hip replacement and has even stated he was taking a break from watching WWE programming for a while. It’s also worth noting that Foley originally planned to skip the WWE events in Orlando this weekend, but was talked into attending by Stephanie McMahon.

Author’s take

If these two are done with the company for good, it’s a sad day for a lot of wrestling fans. However, it would be naive to think that these two legends will never make their way back in front of WWE cameras at some point.

Also, there’s no real indication whether WWE is interested in bringing Austin’s podcast back to the Network eventually, so there’s always a possibility of that show returning at some point.

After his latest run with WWE, I honestly can’t blame Foley for wanting to take a break from WWE programming for a while. Foley was brought back to much acclaim from the WWE Universe. However, by the end of his run, he was constantly belittled on TV by Steph and criticised heavily by fans everywhere.
