WWE Rumours: WWE not looking to sign any new wrestlers above 205 pounds

WWE might be known for having some of the biggest wrestlers in the world, but the wrestling promotion is apparently not looking to sign the physically big superstars anymore. AllWrestlingNews.com recently posted that the management at WWE is not interested in wrestlers above 205 pounds, for the time being.

The website stated that many wrestlers taking part in a trial were sent emails that the company will not hire any person above that weight limit. This certainly seems to be in contradiction to the policy a couple of years ago, but the WWE has been trying to push more slender looking wrestlers in recent times.

Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles and even Kevin Owens, to an extent, don’t resemble the archetypical WWE champions of the yesteryears. Even the first ever WWE Universal Champion, Finn Balor was fast-tracked from the NXT brand and didn’t resemble a John Cena body type for that matter.

This policy could also be seen as a push to bring in more nimble wrestlers to the Cruiserweight division. While RAW saw the debut of the division once again, the high-flying action hasn’t always got the reaction from the fans from the RAW brand that the management would have otherwise expected.

TJ Perkins, Rich Swann and The Brian Kendrick certainly have been doing a good job of pushing their division on RAW, but it has not been enough. WWE, for that matter, has been doing their bit with the Cruiserweight Classic tournament, held earlier in the year, earning major props from the fans.

This also led to the creation of another WWE Network show, WWE 205 Live, which only features wrestlers below the 205-pound mark. Hopefully, for the wrestlers and the management, the Cruiserweight division will start getting the accolades they deserve, and we will continue seeing more high flying action from the superstars.
