News broke out on the day of the draft on SmackDown that there was a backstage brawl between Sin Cara and Simon Gotch. Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated a few days after that that it was a reportedly one-sided fight, with Sin Cara getting the better of Simon Gotch.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now stated that based on what they were told, the story behind the fight was that Sin Cara lost his temper and threw an unopened soda can at Gotch’s face. Another report stated that Sin Cara punched Gotch.Either way, Gotch had a black eye when he was shown in background shots at the PPV, and he was also off the weekend house shows, but Sin Cara was not. The black eye is presumed as the reason why Gotch was removed from the live events.
Simon Gotch allegedly has heat with other wrestlers, and the report states that “Gotch’s mouth sometimes gets people mad at him”. The report goes on to state that Gotch and Sin Cara have had issues in the past as well.
It must be noted that this is not the first time Sin Cara has gotten into trouble backstage, as he had a fight in the trainer’s office with Sheamus in 2014.
