Just a few days ago, it was reported that SmackDown will maintain its two-hour format. Dave Meltzer’s observation that SmackDown running for three hours might not be a reality was based on the opinion that the USA Network might not consider paying for the extra time.

True to WWE form, that might change as dailywrestlingnews.com reports that the USA Network now, might be open to the idea of a third hour for the show. One of the deciding factors in the brand split was the deal with the USA Network and both sides are interested in testing the profitability of a three-hour show.

Some of the higher-ups in the WWE are opposed to the idea, considering the low ratings RAW has suffered specifically in its third hour. And adding a third hour to SmackDown might nip it in the bud, considering the likelihood of strong opposition from international broadcast partners. Needless to say, that could change at the smallest notice.

SmackDown will start airing live on USA from July 19th at 7/8 PM CT. The show will feature its own roster which will take shape after the WWE Draft on July 11th . There have been reports that another major title will be introduced on SmackDown, just for the upper card Superstars.
