WWE and AEW are going all-out to defeat each other on Wednesday nights, in the war between WWE's NXT and AEW's Dynamite shows. It's been neck and neck so far, with AEW narrowly edging ahead of NXT, but NXT defeated AEW on the Survivor Series go-home show.
It seems that the battle is now going to enter the courtrooms as WWE are reportedly set to stop AEW from using a particular trademark that they own. WWE do not want AEW to use the "Bash at the Beach" trademark, which AEW recently acquired.
According to Fightful Select (via ComicBook), people in WWE are unhappy that AEW are using the Bash at the Beach PPV name and they could stop them from using it.
"Some within WWE weren't happy with AEW promoting a Bash at the Beach, and there's talk that they may attempt to take action to stop it," said Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful. WWE reportedly feel that the name is similar to The Bash pay-per-view, which was held once by WWE in 2009.
Cody had recently tweeted something relating to a lawsuit, with many fans believing it to be about the one WWE has filed against AEW: "Sounds like I'll be going to court soon, time to go suit shopping." He later deleted the tweet.
Bash at the Beach was previously a WCW PPV, held between 1994 and 2000, before WWE acquired WCW. AEW acquired the trademark once it elapsed, and the first AEW-branded Bash at the Beach will be held next year and will be multiple shows beginning on January 15, 2020.
AEW President Tony Khan recently revealed how AEW acquired the Bash at the Beach trademark, in an interview with WrestlingInc: "Cody (Rhodes) went on a trademark binge one night and he texted me, 'Conrad and I were up all night trademarking stuff.' One of the things that came out of it was Bash at the Beach. So, when he said that we thought of a way to use it… and the unique idea was to go to Miami in January."
