What's the story?

After recently having made his main roster debut as part of both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live, current NXT Champion, Tommaso Ciampa failed to make an appearance on this week's edition of WWE's weekly TV shows.

In a recent edition of The Observer, it was noted that Ciampa is reportedly dealing with some sort of injury that forced him to miss this week's edition of SD Live.

In case you didn't know...

After having won the NXT Championship off Aleister Black in 2018, Tommaso Ciampa successfully defended his title against arch-rival Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV and followed it up with successful defenses against both The Velveteen Dream and Aleister Black as well.

Earlier in the month, Ciampa alongside Gargano made their main roster debut with both men appearing on Monday Night Raw and challenging Raw Tag Team Champions, The Revival to a match and eventually defeating them as well.

The following night, DIY called out former SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Bar and also were victorious against the duo of Cesaro and Sheamus as well.

The heart of the matter

As per a report from Cultaholic, it seems like in the build-up to this week's WWE SmackDown Live, Tommaso Ciampa seemingly picked up an injury, which eventually resulted in WWE canceling the already advertised singles match between Johnny Gargano and Cesaro for this week's show.

According to the recent read on The Wrestling Observer, the severity of Ciampa's injury is still unknown, however, the NXT Champion will apparently miss all the upcoming NXT dates that he was previously scheduled for. (H/T: Cultaholic)

“Ciampa is injured although we don’t know the severity of it. It’s something he had been working through with the idea of taking care of it after…Takeover. But that explains why he’s wasn’t on television this week nor was he listed for the upcoming weekend NXT dates.”

What's next?

As seen on this week's edition of NXT, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano officially joined forces with each other once again, as DIY is all set to enter this year's Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team Tournament.

Will the former NXT Tag Team Champions defy all the odds and win the entire tournament? If they do, it'll be a miracle, to say the least.
