What's the story?

At Extreme Rules, Kofi Kingston defends his WWE Championship against Samoa Joe in a match that hasn't yet had a stipulation added. Corey Graves last night started the rumor on Raw that the match between the two men could actually become a ladder match even though it is yet to be announced.

In case you didn't know...

Samoa Joe has already proved that he can get the upper hand on Kofi Kingston and this week on Raw he ended his recent undefeated streak when he locked in his Coquina Clutch and even though Kingston didn't tap, he did pass out and lose the six-man tag team match for his team.

Kingston has already defended his Championship against Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler, and at Stomping Grounds he was able to jump out of a steel cage to retain his title, but he is yet to defend the Championship in a ladder match. Interestingly, Kingston has appeared in the most Money in the Bank ladder matches without a win, which shows that he doesn't have a great history in these kinds of matches.

The heart of the matter

During the six-man tag team match on Raw that pitted The New Day against The Viking Raiders and Samoa Joe, Corey Graves stated that he had heard rumors from a source that suggested that the match between Joe and Kingston at Extreme Rules was actually going to be a ladder match.

Nothing else was mentioned, and this match stipulation hasn't actually been announced, but there has to be a reason why Graves felt the need to bring it up on commentary.

What's next?

Kofi Kingston will be part of SmackDown Live tonight, which means that the added stipulation could be announced tonight or next week on Raw.
