WWE Rumors: WWE plans for Goldberg vs. Lesnar match to go on longer than their Survivor Series encounter

Goldberg and Lesnar will square off at the main event of Wrestlemania 33

What’s the story?

The Camping World Stadium will be lit up when Brock Lesnar challenges Goldberg for the WWE Universal Championship in the main event this Sunday. The latest rumours from Prowrestlingsheet.com suggest that the match will go longer than their Survivor Series encounter late last year.

In case you didn’t know...

No individual in the history of the WWE has managed to torment Brock Lesnar like Goldberg. Brock Lesnar has been built as an invincible force of destruction in the WWE. After he conquered the Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania XXX, Brock Lesnar has left a series of bodies in his wake. He suplexed John Cena 16 times at Summerslam 2014 to win the championship. Lesnar went on to assert his dominance over numerous including Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Big Show, and Randy Orton.

The heart of the matter

Goldberg is one of the very few superstars that holds two victories over Brock Lesnar in singles competition. The WCW veteran managed to triumph Lesnar during their bafflingly abominable matchup at WrestleMania XX and at Survivor Series in the Air Canada Center last year. Goldberg also managed to outclass the Beast Incarnate at the Royal Rumble when he eliminated Lesnar with ease and dominance.

Goldberg has been training like a machine to face Lesnar at the Ultimate Thrill Ride, WrestleMania 33. The booking that had started out as Fantasy Warfare based on the 2K17 video game went on to become one of the biggest matches of 2016. Goldberg promised fans to expect the match to be a hard fought encounter between the two icons that will cap off the Goldberg-Lesnar trilogy.

What’s next?

WWE has taken over Orlando for the WrestleMania weekend. Besides WrestleMania, the entire weekend has numerous events lined up such WrestleMania Axxess, Hall of Fame Ceremony, and NXT TakeOver. On Sunday, WrestleMania will emanate from the Orlando Citrus Bowl at a special start time of 7 PM E and will stream live on the WWE Network.

Author's Take

The mega-rematch between Lesnar and Goldberg is certainly going to headline WrestleMania since the stakes have been heightened with the Universal Championship is on the line. Goldberg has always been criticised for having short matches during his time in WCW and WWE would look to purge Goldberg of that reputation.

The match promises to be a hard-hitting, action-packed encounter between two men who are not particularly fond of each other. And given the setting, the match will bear a sense of grandeur to it. Therefore, closing WrestleMania with a quick main event could leave the fans bitter and wanting more.
